About Harold Whitford

My name is Harold Whitford, a husband, father, and avid cyclist with a Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from the University of Delaware.

Having been in the industry for more than 15 years, I have a number of the road race and national time trial championships in my bag.

I’ve covered more than 500,000 kilometers in my quest to experience different cycling bikes and terrain.

I’m the owner and main contributor to this growing community of cycling. If you’re new to the website, feel free to be part of the biking platform and go through our articles to get expert advice on all aspects of the sport.

My experience in cycling places me in a great position to give information on all forms of cycling to upcoming, intermediate, and soon to be experts.

I discovered my passion for cycling at the early age of 12 years. I had a weekend routine where I used to accompany my father on my bike while making deliveries around town. The early morning activity would be followed by a cycling match with my brothers which I thoroughly enjoyed and thrived in.

Later on, I engaged in cycling competitions and soon become a force to reckon within the school and the community. I was able to bag a number of Silver and Gold medals which are still on display to date.

While growing up, my passion for sports and cycling, in particular, continued to flourish. This is why I sought to pursue sports management.

The aim of undertaking the course was to learn the business aspect of cycling. With this, I was able to identify how to make a fulfilling and successful career in cycling competitions.

Upon retirement from active competitive cycling, I embarked to teach and mentor individuals who were looking to make a living out of the sport. I’ve managed to successfully train and manage more than 500 cyclists.

My pursuit of knowledge did not end there. I’ve also enrolled for a Foundation Degree in Sport and Exercise Science. This is a 2-year program that deals with enhancing and managing cycling performance.

With this certification, I’ve been able to manage a team, develop and harness their skills. I’m also working as a coach for individuals who are looking to elevate their cycling careers.

Aside from cycling, I’m a wordsmith. Over the years, I’ve been a contributing author to a number of published articles. I majorly write on topics around cycling- my expertise and love.

Some of the articles I’ve made contributions to include; Cycling Weekly, NYTimes, Washington Post, Bloomberg, and Forbes.

The reception of my cycling content brought about the creation of bikeshaven.com. A platform that I seek to share my knowledge on cycling, the gear, and tips on how to make the most out of the experience.

You’ll find information on all types of bikes and cycling adventures.
