The Schwinn 430 is an entry-level elliptical machine but with a slew of features to allow users to enjoy their workout as well as track their performance.

While it’s by no means the most technically advanced elliptical machine, it comes from a reputable brand in the fitness space.

Besides the low pricing, it grabs user attention because it plays host to an array of features that are typically found in the more expensive units.

However, though feature-rich, it isn't exactly designed for everyone, and hopefully, our Schwinn 430 elliptical review below will allow you to determine whether it' the best elliptical machine for your fitness needs.

What Makes Schwinn 430 elliptical Awesome!

  • 22 Workout Programs                                                                                       Equipped with 22 preset programs, the Schwinn 430 will allow you to take the most out of your exercise sessions.

These exercises are professionally crafted and are designed to suit different fitness requirements.

The fitness tests programs, for instance, are ideal for both the beginners and advanced users, while the heart rate control, on the other hand, are designed to boost speed and burn calories.

The fitness machine also comes with a quick start program, which is quite handy for beginners.

Generally speaking, these programs will easily guide you in every step of your training, and to say at the least, you'll feel as if you have a professional trainer by your side.

  • Variable Resistance

For an elliptical machine, the 20 resistance levels feel like overkill, especially considering that a majority of the elliptical has a maximum setting of 4 to 6.

However, just in case you want to crank it up high, the Schwinn 430 will give you the chance to take it as high as 20.

As you’ll notice, this flexibility gives you sufficient room for growth, and as you increase the resistance, you’ll also find out that you’ll burn more calories, boost your endurance and develop muscles.

  • Heart Rate Monitoring

While there’s nothing fancy on the heart rate monitoring function, we’ve to applaud on how efficiently this feature tells us how fast our heart is beating.

However, like a majority of the ellipticals on this price range, there’s no chest strap, but instead, it uses the heart rate pulse sensors located on the handlebars.

  • Weight- 162 pounds

Unique Features That Make Schwinn 430 Interesting

Frame

All the parts on the frame are an all-steel construction for the ultimate durability and strength.

They're further coated with anti-corrosive paint, and this helps to protect the machine against the external elements.

Size

With a dimension of 70 x 28 x 71 in and weighing a whopping 162 pounds, the Schwinn 430 is pretty bulky and heavy

Though it can easily be rolled on a plane surface, it will require at least two people to move on a set of stairs.

The good news is, the hefty weight corresponds with a generous weight capacity of 300 pounds.

Another good thing is the front base on this fitness machine is equipped with rotating caps that serve as transport wheels.

Handlebars

The Schwinn 430 elliptical machine is uniquely designed with two pairs of handlebars.

One set is static for an easy workout, while the other promotes an ergonomic motion, allowing for a great upper body workout.

However, the fixed handlebar has an additional pulse sensor feature that relays the heart rate information to the display.

Nonetheless, both of the handlebars are equipped with rubberized grips for comfort and are flexible enough to support a gamut of workout postures.

Additionally, in between the handlebars, you’ll find two accessory holders that provide space for water bottles, and the other one for devices such as phones, remote or other accessories.

Incline

The biggest drawback on the Schwinn 430 is the incline capability.

The manual incline ramp on this model comes with 6 levels and will allow users to adjust from 0° to 10°.

This is quite a noble idea as it allows users to diversify their workout spectrum, combining various resistance and incline settings.

However, considering that other elliptical trainers provide as much as 20°, you'll see why this model is not the perfect option for advanced users.

Again, the incline adjustment is not mechanized, meaning to change the incline, you’ll have to stop and make the adjustment.

Drive System

The Schwinn 430 is powered by a heavy-duty V-belt system.

The flywheel (10 pounds) on the drive system is perimeter-weighted, and this helps to deliver a smooth and consistent performance.

Pedals

The pedals on this elliptical machine are articulating, meaning they move with each of your steps.

I love how they slightly adjust to my stride and posture, therefore eliminating the stress that may happen in my ankles and knees.

It’s for this reason that this elliptical trainer is such a fantastic option for users who are taking a recovery program.

Performance aside, the size of the pedals is pretty generously, and I found it accommodative for all feet sizes.

Even better, the pedals are rubberized so, they'll provide the maximum adherence to your footwear.

The only gripe I had with 20” stride is that it’s not adjustable.

Resistance

The Schwinn 430 uses the Eddy Current Resistance, which leverages on a magnetic brake pad, alongside an electric current.

The good thing with this resistance system is there’s no contact with the flywheel, and so, you can expect no noise.

More importantly, however, there’s little to no wear on the resistance elements.

What We Like About Schwinn 430

  • Detailed Console: For an entry-level elliptical trainer, you get a high-quality computer with a dual LCD screen that displays all your essential performance metrics.
  • Workout tracking: This feature allows you to track and download your workout performance through several apps like the Schwinn Trainer and MyFitnessPal.
  • Audio and Media: With this updated model, it’s now easier to watch movies through your iPod or even read Kindle as you work out.
  • Accessories:  This premium model comes with an array of accessories for help to promote the overall convenience of this unit. Some of these include the 3-speed fan that offers a cooling effect during workouts, a bottle holder, and a media tray.

What We Didn’t Like About Schwinn 430

  • Limited Incline: The incline on the Schwinn 430 is limited to a maximum of 10°, which is quite a deal-breaker, especially for professional users.

Bottomline & Verdict

The Schwinn 430 elliptical trainer is a great buy, and we love the detailed computer control and premium construction.

While the incline is pretty limited, all the other components are incredible, and it offers great value for money.
